The Story

The history of the Des Furlong Showband actually starts inn 1950 with an advert in the Irish Independent seeking gigs for the Benny Birkett Orchestra, featuring "six star musicians and exclusively Ireland's leading M.C. (Master of Ceremonies), Des Furlong." The band also featured vocalist Betty Impey (who was, or would become, Des' spouse) and Alex Kelly on sax.
