The Story

Editor's note: Every care has been taken to present only factual information in this story based on newspaper articles and photographic archives. If you can add anything or correct info in this story, please email us and let us know.

The first mention of Belfast's Regency Showband we could find was in February, 1964. However, this doe snot mean they were not on the road before that. One of our continuing problems in researching bands from the Belfast area is that the archives of the Belfast Telegraph, the city's number one newspaper, only go as far back as 1976. We continue to try to overcome this issue, but so far, have been unable to do so.

We know that Gene Stuart was, at one point, the band lead singer as in 1969 he was tapped to replaced Larry Cunningham in the Mighty Avons, after Larry started his own outfit.
