By Gerry Gallagher of www.irish-showbands.com Word reached us first via email and then through the Internet that the 60 year old Galtymore Ballroom in London's Cricklewood district is no more. The major dance venue for Irish living in and around London was bulldozed in March of this year. However, the ballroom that has hosted all of Ireland's most famous showbands, is to be rebuilt, so the news isn't all bad. The Galtymore complex, which includes the Galtymore, Aran, and Ashton ballrooms, has played an important role in the history of the Irish Showbands, especially in recent years as most of the Irish ballrooms have been closed down. In fact, coming attractions over the next few weeks at the time of this article included: The Indians, Big Tom, Philomena Begley, and Susan McCann.
