‘Wild Man of Rock’ at Earth
  08/02/02
  Derry Journal

Rock Stewart, the self proclaimed ‘Wild Man of Rock’ arrives at Earth Niteclub tonight with another of his theatrical performances.
Few would deny the outrageous appeal of Rock’s concerts, which have thrilled audiences across Ireland and further afield for the best part of twenty years.
Inspired by renowned glam rock alter-egos such as Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and America’s Alice Cooper, Rock was the brainchild of Newtownstewart man, Willie Loughery, during a spell as lead singer with the Plattermen in the late 70s.
Following a period of what he describes as ‘zany performances’, Willie devised a series of themes in the form of famous notorious characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein and Rasputin with costumes that could have been nicked straight from the Hammer Studios.
The individualism and popularity of Willie’s creations has allowed him to be one of the few survivors of a period, which created many live performers and bands who ultimately fell by the wayside as a result of changing trends and fashions.
Willie’s creativity and ability to re-invent himself certainly shows no sign of stagnating with the creation of his most recent character, Buck Stupid and his Baldy Bandits.
Rock Stewart can be seen live on stage at Earth Niteclub tonight, supported by DJ Steve Moran, it’s gonna be a crazy one. Be early!
