Showband star Tony Stevens has mixed feelings about Mayo. It was here that the showband star first earned considerable popularity during the 1980’s. But it was also here that the Corkman nearly lost his life following a serious road accident in the early 1990’s while returning from a date with his band.
Tony’s career was brought to a premature end after that accident, and the two years he spent in hospital, during which time he had seventeen operations, convinced many that he would never again perform in public.
Now the entertainer and his band are back on the road, and will play in the Ruby Club, Castlebar, on Saturday 12th April.
“I’m exceptionally lucky to be alive and a mircle to be back on the road. I had to make some changes and not by choice”, he says.
Tony Stevens has a brand new band, a new manager in Frank Daly, and an album called “The Green Green Grass Of Home”,
all of which augurs well for the future.
