John Baird's Collection

John was born in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal in 1948 and grew up within walking distance of the Fiesta Ballroom. He was there on the opening night in Oct., 1962 when his favourites--the Capitol Showband--opened the well known venue. Having spent time as a Merchant Seaman, John is now a Professional Artist specializing in subjects of Local Historic interest and all aspects of Marine Art. Married to Jane, they have a son Jonathan who is a local soccer coach. John likes anything "proper Showband" and is an avid collector of Dixieland Jazz and Big Band music. He is at present writing a history of The Fiesta Ballroom which is due to be published in 2006. We invite you to enjoy John's contribution to the website and we thank him for his support!
