The Amethyst was a relative latecomer to the showband era, having been opened on February 1st, 1975 to the sounds of
Johnny McEvoy, Gloria and their band, entrance was 60p. Throughout the rest of the 1970's the hall played host to the biggest
bands of the era. In September, 1982, the ballroom stopped dances and closed "for renovations." (see below).
