SHOWBAND MEMORIES PROJECT
Thank you for clicking through to learn more about our new
Showband Memories Project.
For the last decade, we have been collecting, cataloging and
posting as much info as we can on the showbands which toured Ireland
between the 1950's and the 1980's. In doing so, it has become
obvious this era had a profound effect on the entertainment, culture
and most importantly, the people of Ireland.
Until now, we have been so busy learning about the
bands, musicians, managers and ballrooms of the era, that we have
neglected its impact on you, our community. We want to set that
right and have started the Showband Memories Project in an effort to
collect, catalog and archive your feelings, memories and
experiences of the showband era.
Taking part is simple. Just send us an email to
showbands@gmsproductions.com.
Tell us your memories of the halls, the bands, the
effect it had on your life, people you met, romances started,
anything that will contribute to our understanding of how the
showbands truly played an important role in Irish society for over
thirty years.
Don't stop there....tell about what else was going
on in those days (please give us an idea about the years you are
describing). What else was there to do besides dancing? How far
would you travel tl go to a dance? How would you get there? How much
did it cost? What was happening in the pubs around that time? We
want to know EVERYTHING!!
We look forward to hearing and sharing your stories and memories
of the era. We also promise to protect your privacy and will not
publish any personal information unless we receive direct permission
from you.
Regards and thanks,
Gerry Gallagher / email: showbands@gmsproductions.com
