Where Are They Now?
The Story
The band was formed in 1976 after the demise of
Gerry Black and the Seasons. John Beattie,
former keyboard player with the Mainliners was one of the founding
members which included: Ed Dawn (vocals - a stage name we think),
John Beattie (keyboards), Peader McGeogh (bass), Brendan Murray
(drums), Mick McCarthy (guitar), Freddie Ryan (trombone), and Mick
McGeady (sax). They release a single in late 1976 with Come Early
Morning (Don Williams) on the A-side and Tom T. Hall's I
Washed my Face in the Morning Dew) on the B-side.
Playing mainly off the strength of
band leader John Beattie's association with the Mainliners, the band
was soon playing up and down the country, doing quite well based on
the number of dances they were playing. In March, 1977 Donal K.
Boyle reported in the Donegal News that tyhe ban d was breaking up
with John Beattie fronting a new outfit "managed by Tony Loughman."
The report was refuted a few days later in the Donegal Democrat by
"Maestro."
The band continued to gig around
the country but their dates seemed focus on the North and far south
for the most part, both strongholds for country music in those days.
In October, 1977 the "Maestro" reported that John Beattie has
announced his retirement and would be taking over the management of
the band. However, the last advertisement for the band we could find
was in the Pavesi Ballroom in Donegal on October 30th. They
disappeared after this, so we assume they broake up (or continued
with a new name).
