Where Are They Now?
The Story
In 1969, Shaun O'Dowd was first featured as the lead vocalist with
the Donie Collins Showband when they released Get Down With It,
backed by I Can't Help Myself. Shaun would later go on to
bigger fame with his own band, Ding-A-Ling. At the end of 1970,
an advert in Spotlight announced the "New Big Band Sound of
the Donie Collins Orchestra and Singers." In November, 1970, a
few weeks later Sean O'Dowd announced he and guitarist Liam Foley
were leaving Donie's band by mutual agreement and were even talking
with Donie about managing the new band.
The new "big band" included in the
lineup: Mick Falahee (sax), Chas Cheevers (sax), Harvey Roche
(trumpet), Steve Donohoe (drums), Martin Roe (guitar), Brian O'Grada
(keyboards), Austin Graham (bass), Donie Collins (trumpet).
