Where Are They Now?
The Story
The first mention we can find
about the Raydots was in September, 1967 when they were advertised
as a coming attraction to the Swinford Town Hall. Based in Belfast,
the band featured Tom. E King as their lead singer. The original
line-up was: Bill McKitterick (keyboards), Sammy Stothers (guitar),
Dermot Hickland (trumpet), Dave Clark (drums), Tom E. King (vocals),
Ronnie Corlett (sax) and Ian Clark (bass). At some point the band
became an 8 piece but we don't know who joined. They called
themselves the "Big Sound Explosion."
In April, 1969 Bill McKitterick
left the band to join Gene Chetty's new band, The Flames. We're not
sure who replaced him, but in May, it appears the band had changed
its name to the Flair Showband. It appears the Flair Showband didn't
last too long as the last advert we can find for them gigging was in
October, 1970. If you know any more about the band,
please email us.
