The first mention of a carnival in Ballintogher was early 1956 when it was scheduled for June-July later that summer.
The carnival was held in a 4,000 sq ft marquee with many other events in the local hall.
It appears the carnival was held somewhat sporadically as we can't find references to it every year.
The last reference to the carnival we can find is an advert for dancing in 1972.
