Collooney Carnival, Co. Sligo

The carnival in Collooney came on the scene in 1948 and the dances were held at that point in the local hall. Although
we are not sure whether the carnival ran every year after this, we know that it started out in aid of "parochial purposes"
and when the last carnival was held  in 1975 it was for the "Collooney GAA and Handball Clubs." It also started out being run in
October which was quite late in the year for a carnival and moved to mid summer in the late 1950s. By the time it ended it was being
held in September.
