Dromore West Carnival, Co. Sligo
The Dromore West Carnival started in 1962
and was sponsored by Father Hugh Brady of Dromore West in aid of "parochial
purposes."
The inaugural carnival booked some of the top bands in the country from as far
away as Dublin and Waterford. The event was a
a little different in that it ran from late September into mid-October, not the
best time in Ireland weather-wise. At some point during its
23 year run, it switch to running at the end of June into July to take advantage
of the summer weather. In 1984 the carnival ran for
what appears to be the last time with the funds in aid of building a new church
in the town.
