Red Barons in the late 1960's
The Red Barons were formed in 1967 and was made
up of five members from the village of Armoy in County Antrim.
There were three brothers - Harry, Barney and Paul Mulholland along with Malachy
Laverty and his cousin Jimmy Laverty.
After playing local venues and relief to showbands for a couple of years, they
moved on to the dancehalls, added three musicians
and in 1970 became the Young Stars. Anthony McAuley from Cargan, Ballymena
managed the band.
Left to right: Malachy Laverty (guitar), Jimmy Laverty (drums), Barney
Mulholland (RIP - vocals), Paul Mulholland (bass)
and Harry Mulholland (guitar). Our thanks to
Paul Mulholland for the photo and info. Barney sadly passed away in 1992.
