Atlantic Ballroom, Tramore, Co. Waterford
The Atlantic Dance Hall (Ballroom) in
Tramore, Co Waterford is part of a by-gone era of the Irish seaside resort
ballrooms.
Although we can't find a date for the opening of the ballroom, we know that it
was open for business in 1922
It was known as Piper's Atlantic Hall. The ballroom was up for sale as the owner
was retiring. This situation would last for several years as it was still for
sale in 1932. Over the years, the ballroom has
owned by a variety of people including Bill Fuller (RIP), the Piper family and
others. During the 1950's and 60's the ballroom
played host to all the big bands of the era. Sadly in the 1970's places like
Tramore were somewhat in decline as interest in Irish
seaside resorts waned as did the fortunes of the ballroom. Finally around 1978,
the ballroom closed its doors to dancers
and was granted a license for amusements. Today, it is still standing and is an
amusement centre,
