Beara Bay Hotel, Castletownbere, Co. Cork
The ballroom in the Beara Bay Hotel was
opened May 20th, 1976 to the sounds of Maurice Mulcahy.
Although not a major venue, the Beara Bay
Hotel was one of the longest journeys a band could take. Back in the
"good old days" a drive of six hours each way made Castletownbere a challenge.
Fortunately, it was a great dancing town.
Three photos, the first from 1979 when the venue was going strong. However, the
hotel closed down in 1997 and we think it was
damaged by fire. It reopened in 2002 under new ownership. We think it is still
going and the last tow photos are fairly recent.
Note in photo three that the large tree in front of the hotel has been cut down.
