Castle Ballroom, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
The Castle Ballroom in Enniscorthy opened
its door with the sounds of Mick Delahunty and his band (as many ballrooms did
back in those days. It got its name from the fact that it stood mainly on the
grounds of Enniscorthy castle. Its spacious dance floor was
able to hold 2,000 dancers. In the 1970s the ballroom was purchased by showband
legend P.J. Doyle for what he called "a small
five figure sum. In APril 1993 the ballroom caught fire but was not badly
damaged. In 2005, it was reported that P.J. had decided
to sell the Castle for €3,000,000. As of 2018, PJ had still not sold the
ballroom.
