Drumsill Hotel, Armagh, Co. Armagh
The hotel, a landmark in the Armagh area,
ran dances back in the 1970's and did quite well. In June, 1979, the hotel was
one
of several bombed by the IRA. In the 1990's, the ballroom was converted into a
club called the Met and then the Arena
which gathered dancers in their thousands and was very popular. In 2002, the
hotel closed its doors for the last time and
was due to go on the market through public auction in June of that year, but was
purchased by a local bidder. The building
sat empty for the next 15 years as planning permission was sought to redevelop
the land for commercial use. Finally, in 2016
the hotel and the club were demolished to make room for a new office and
warehouse development.
