Opened on Sunday, August 12, 1962 by Thomas Quinn and Tony Kiernan of Granard, Co. Longford (they had already
opened the "other" Granada ballroom in Granard. The 10,000 square foot ballroom featured a 4500 sq ft dance floor.
The opening dance had a double bill of Mick Delahunty and his band, along with the Miami Showband
(pre-Dickie Rock). In early 1981, both of the Granada Ballrooms were up for sale, while dances continued. The last event we can find
for the Granada in Kingscourt was Easter, 1982 and in 1983, several attempts were made to auction the property only to be withdrawn
due to the price not reaching the reserve. Eventually, the Granada had a second life as a garage,
but it now lies derelict on the Kingscourt to Bailieboro road.
