The Covers of Spotlight - 1973

New Spotlight
In 1973, Spotlight published 51 issues. It was also the
year a definite shift took place as between January and the end of June, only 5
out of 26 covers featured non-Irish artists, while from July to the end of the
year, that number grew to 18 out of 25 covers featured non-Irish acts. 1973 was
the year Spotlight more or less "abandoned" the showband scene and began heavily
featuring International pop acts like David Cassidy and the Osmonds. All in all,
28 covers featured Irish bands out of 51 (for those keeping score, that's 23
non-Irish acts, compared to 6 out of 52 in 1972). This trend would continue as
in 1974 only 11 issues featured Irish artists.

all Spotlight magazines in 1973 and will be posting them as they
become available in the very near future.
