Thanks!

many great memories of the times I danced to these bands when I was

as a band named pulse , then supported ufo at the ulster hall in
belfast october 1979 . although they were very good and very young
when pat mcmanus took to playing a violin bow across his guitar the
crowd were less than pleased at his " jimmy page " inpersonation , a
bit unfair as they really played a blinding set .

Comments: Great site! Just
heard about it from a friend in Canada. I played guitar in the
original college Boys from '64 to 72'. I was a great time to be in
the band scene. We had a reunion on stage in 1998 at the Waterfront
with George Jones and some other bands including the Freshmen -
fantastic atmosphere. We were set to continue meeting and playing
when our bass player Wills McKinnie was tragically killed in a car
accident. One of the great benefits of playing at that time was
being support band to some of the legends of the pop era including
Roy Orbison, The Everley Brothers, P.J. Proby, Long John Baldry etc.
and getting to meet with them - some of the best memories I will
ever have. Keep up the good work.

site. I was a member of the Rimshots Showband in the 60 s while
still at school. It was founded by two of Mick Delahunty's nephews
Johnny and Maxie Delahunty with two of their friends Joe Whelan and
Eamonn O'Toole all from Clonmel and all still alive and well. If you
contact me I can supply a photo. I regret that two former members
are now dead, Tommy O Dwyer Sax/Clarinet and Pat Murray singer. We
had great times and as a young boy {on guitar] it was a great
learning experience both musically and for life. Perhaps you could
put this in the archive. PS I now do good business reproducing live
that very showband music and really enjoy it. Hope to hear from you.

from Australia. I came looking for information on the lead singer of
the Indians in 1990' A friend lent me a DVD of the band in concert &
i was blown away. The singer was "Noel Brady' I was saddened to hear
that he has throat problems. i just wanted to let him know that his
voice gave me goosebumps & his showmanship & energy was phenomenal.
I Have'nt heard any other lineups of the band, but i'm sure that
they would be pretty good. If anyone has an address where i can
write to Noel, i would love to write him & tell him how much i
enjoyed his performance. Cheers, Relle from downunder Australia.

see the George Duffy Orchestra on your site. I played the
piano, hiding behind Betty Moran, Lady Vocalist. I remember
Peter Brady playing with the band. He was very highly
recommended to George by The Irish Federation of Musicians. We
were based in Dundalk, and Peter would travel to Dundalk or we would
pick him up in Dublin as the venue would suit. The drummer was
Leo Mullen, whose son is a partner in a very prestigious law firm.
Leo was also the brother of the Saxophone player on the extreme
right, Gerry Mullen, and the brother of the famous Louis Mullen who
was the vocalist with Tommy O'Brien in the Crystal Ballroom, Dublin.

Joe Dean from the Clippertones from Armagh was a top class drummer.
He always did a drum solo. True showband style. Paddy Green was
Keady was also a great drummer.

Comments: what a great site
!!!........ it sure brings back memories of the late 60's and early
70's in las vegas and the stardust hotel with brendan, tommy,
jimmy, d.j. frankie. rita and bridget. i can't remember names
anymore because i'm getting too damn old. the amazing thing is many
of us survived those days. it only goes to proove that there is a
god......however, i think stella's prayers carried some weight with
the big producer in the sky. gary richie (since deceased) and i
worked for klas-tv and we discovered brendan, late one night at the
flame restaurant across the street from the stardust. we spent many
a nights with brendan and the boys and girls at the stardust, which
later turned into years. we were all flirting with the grape at that
time ; but, since than i think most of us quit. i know i
did........... as long as i live, i will always remember brendan
bowyer as a talented preformer, a trusted friend and with a
personality you can't buy..... so, on august 22nd
1991 i named my 3rd son, brendan sheridan after
brendan bowyer..

Comments: I was a huge fan of
Joe Cuddy's but haven't heard anything about him for years, until
tonight, when on your web site, I see that he's still on the road!
Would love to hear him again. My favourite song was "Sometimes
When we Touch". For me, he was the only one who could sing
that song properly! Love your site. I've put it in my
Favourites.

Comments: Where are Dennis
Murray and Tony Kenny mentioned? They were in the band also.
Tony Kenny is still in Ireland and Dennis Murray is in California
now and his son, Damien's band "The Wake" plays contemporary Irish
music, and his other two sons, Roy and Colin are in bands as well.
Would love to see Dennis and Tony mentioned in your updates.
Thank you.
Answer: Both are featured in the Sands Feature on
the site already.

record a song called Millers Cave? John Hayes
Answer from Tiptop: Yes is the answer to your
question. Tom Dunphy had a version of Millers Cave on his Tom
Dunphy Country LP on Release SRL 3005. Issued in 1970 , it is long
deleted and has never appeared (yet) on CD. Hope this helps.

Comments: As a very young member
of Dickie Rock fan club as we were being brought up in Scotland my
father and mother spent their honeymoon in Ireland in Culdaf but
from that time till I was born my father and mother sang the songs
of Ireland so when my mother passed away at the age of 35 yrs it was
a great loss to me and dad and sister. When I got married to my wife
carol I told her of our time being brought up on songs and music
about showbands so when we got married the song we chose was, Every
Step of the Way" as my dad sung the great song as it had a place in
his heart and mine. In 2000 my dad passed away so the song lives on
in my heart. one day I will return to Culdaf.

Comments: My Dad was in the Dave
Moynihan Showband for many years but you don't have the photo. I was
looking for his name. He was Jim Moulds. Other members of the band
were Dave Moynihan, his sons Dave, Arthur and Tommy, Oliver Stephens
on drums and Tommy Redmond. I do not remember the rest of the
members. Unfortunately my Dad passed away on the 4th March 2002. He
had MS and was confined to a wheel chair for 6 to 7 years. Thank you
for keeping the memories of the great showbands alive with this site
as I grew up listening to them and hearing stories about showbands
through my Dad.
